The new adventures of the possessed doll Checkered Ninja (Ternet Ninja), brainchild of stand-up comedian/director Anders Matthesen, are in full swing. A. Film Production, Sudoku and Pop Up production have unveiled Ninja’s new look and new twists to the plot.

In the sequel, the cynical toy giant Phillip Eberfrø has escaped from jail in Thailand and innocent child workers are in danger. Teenage boy Alex embarks on a new mission, with Checkered Ninja, flanked by Alex’s mother Sirena, stepfather Jørn, step-brother Sune and Uncle Stewart.

Matthesen who is co-directing with animator Thorbjørn Christoffersen says the film will be more of a road movie, and the visual ambitions will be “5 or 6 times” higher than for the first film. “We are almost done with the animation phase but continue to come up with new things and ideas that we put into the film,” he said, underlining the cross over potential for the animation title, targeting pre-teens, teenagers and adults.

Checkered Ninja 2 is produced by Trine Heidegaard and Anders Mastrup for A. Film Production, Sudoku and Pop Up Production, in collaboration with Nordisk Film Distribution and YouSee, with support from the Danish Film Institute, Nordisk Film & TV Fond and the Estonian Film Institute

The first film - released as well by Nordisk Film - was a smash hit in Denmark, with 946,500 total admissions. It also had a good run in Norway, with 144,700 admissions.

Internationally, Checkered Ninja was sold by LevelK to more than 50 territories including France, Benelux and Russia.
