Lyytikäinen has 14 years’ experience in film and TV drama; her most recent production job was at Fisher King where she worked on the series Replacements and Bordertown.

Producer Elina Pohjola and screenwriter Mike Pohjola set up Pohjola-filmi in 2009. The company has more than 20 titles on its credit list such as the documentary My father from Sirius and the family film Pony and Pigeonboy, still playing in Finnish cinemas (33,715 admissions so far).

With Citizen Jane Productions, the partners intend to expand their portfolio, both in film and TV drama. “Streaming services have put our field in a transition; this allows vast new opportunities that we, content producers, have to seize,” said Lyytikäinen.

The first series to be produced by Citizen Jane for Yle is the youth series Zoo! Viral Geniuses, based on the Finlandia Junior nominated book of the same name, written by local media personalities and comedians Kaj Korkea-aho and Ted Forsström. The series centres on a teenage boy and his everyday life at school.

The web and TV series combining live and animation, will be directed by Elin Grönblom (Steffi). Lyytikäinen said filming is scheduled to start next summer, with a delivery in 2019.

Zoo! Viral Geniuses will be pitched at Amsterdam’s Cinekid Junior Co-Production Market (October 25-26).

The second project Eva is a documentary series about Finland’s female super-featherweight champion Eva Walhström, to be directed by Mikko Peltonen.
