May El-Toukhy to sit on Nordic Talents Jury

The Director of Queen of Hearts and four other jury members will select the winners of the Nordic Talents Pitch Prize and Special Mention Prize to be handed out September 5, 2019.

The 2019 Nordic Talents pitching and networking event co-organised by Nordisk Film & TV Fond and the National Film School of Denmark, will unspool September 4-5, 2019 in Copenhagen.

May El-Toukhy will return to Nordic Talents where she won the top Pitch Prize in 2009. She has directed the award-winning films Queen of Hearts and Long Story Short, as well as episodes of the acclaimed DR dramas The Legacy and Ride Upon the Storm

The other jury members are:

  • Grimar Jonsson (Iceland), producer and managing director of Netop Films. Jonsson’s production credit includes the hits Rams and Under the Tree
  • Ulla Simonen (Finland), producer and director of the local promotional centre for audiovisual culture AVEK. Simonen has produced nearly 30 films such as the award-winning documentaries Garden Lovers, Don Juan and the film The Violin Player
  • Isabella Eklöf (Sweden), rising writer/director, graduate from the National Film School of Denmark. Eklöf had her breakthrough with her feature debut Holiday (Denmark), which premiered at Sundance 2018 and went on to win major international awards such as Best Film-Next Wave Award at Austin Fantastic Fest, and the Politiken Talent Award at CPH:PIX. She also co-wrote the acclaimed Swedish genre film Border by Ali Abbasi. 
  • Ståle Stein Berg (Norway), film and TV drama commissioner at the Norwegian Film Institute since 2016. Trained as a screenwriter from the Norwegian Film School of Lillehammer, Berg has worked on six films and TV dramas such as Kissed by Winter, the 2013 German Oscar entry Two Lives starring Liv Ullmann and the series Occupied

Around 15 projects from graduating Nordic film and TV students will be pitched to more than 200 Nordic industry people and students at the National Film School of Denmark.

Besides the popular pitching session, Nordic Talents includes a Producers’ Pitch as well as a masterclass from a distinguished talent. Details will be announced soon.  Last year’s winner of the NOK 250,000 Nordic Talents Pitch Prize was Fanny Ovesen. The NOK50,000 Nordic Talents Special Mention Prize was won ex aequo by two other graduates from the Norwegian Film School: Brwa Vahabpour and Teresia Fant.
