Pernilla August plays Queen Kristina in the Swedish coming-of-age series Young Royals from concept director Rojda Sekersöz.

The series produced by Nexiko is created by the company’s co-founder Lars Beckung, together with Lisa Ambjörn (Dreaming of England) and Camilla Holter.

The story is set in the prestigious Swedish boarding school Hillerska. Edvin Ryding (Love Me) plays Prince Wilhelm who finally gets the opportunity to find out what kind of life he really wants. He starts dreaming of a future filled with freedom and unconditional love, far from the royal obligations. When he unexpectedly becomes next in line for the throne, he has to choose between love or duty.

Playing against Ryding and Pernilla August are Malte Gårdinger (Sandhamn Murders), Frida Argento (Becoming Astrid), Nikita Uggla as well as Omar Rudberg, known from the band FO&O.

The Netflix Original is set to premiere worldwide in 2021.

Young Royals is the first Netflix series for the fast-expanding Nexiko, founded in 2013 by former Kanal 5 director of programmes Beckung, TV celebrity duo Filip Hammar and Fredrik Wikingsson (aka Filip & Fredrik), and Mikael Svensson, former CEO at STO-CPH.

As part of the company’s rapid push into TV drama , Beckung has just hired former Art & Bob’s long-time producer Anette Brantin to strengthen Nexiko Drama. Brantin’s production credit includes TV4’s Syrror (Swedish remake of Nurses), SVT’s Dreaming of England and Kanal 5’s Sommaren med släkten, remake of the Norwegian show Neste Sommer (Next Summer). “Nexiko is still a pretty new company when it comes to scripted series, but the company has a great development slate and an exciting vision,” said Brantin.

Nexiko’s other current productions include the series Dough produced for SVT with support from Nordisk Film& TV Fond. Levan Akin (And Then We Danced) serves as co-creator with Mattias J Skoglund and concept director. The crime show starring Helena af Sandeberg (Quicksand) and Bianca Kronlöf (Thin Ice) will premiere in the fall 2021.
