The six day celebration on Fårö island, of Ingmar Bergman's life and art, is taking place for the fifth time this upcoming week (June 24-29).
The Bergman Week will open officially on Tuesday 24 at Fårö Church with the world premiere of Daniel Börtz's Persona - inspired ‘Impression'" featuring actress Pernilla August and trumpet solist Håkan Hardenberger.
This year's special guests include Sweden's top filmmaker Jan Troell whose latest work Maria Larsson's Everlasting Moment will have its world premiere at Fårö on June 26, and German filmmaker Margarethe von Trotta who will introduce her favourite Bergman film The Seventh Seal on June 27. Two long-time collaborators to Bergman, actress Gunnel Lindblom and production manager Allan Ekelund, will share their memories about the Swedish master, as well as Jörn Donner, producer of the Academy Award winning Fanny & Alexander. The late actress Eva Dahlbeck - who passed away earlier this year - will be remembered through the screening of three of the nine Bergman films in which she appeared.
On June 29, Bergman's heritage and how it can be preserved, will be discussed by a group of panellists including Inger Harlevi, Chairman of Culture and Leisure Committee, Municipality of Gotland, Eva Nypelius, County Mayor, Ingrid Eiken, State Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Marianne Samuelsson, Governor of Gotland, Jannike Åhlund, Bergman Week, Daniel Bergman, and editor Paul Duncan. The session will be moderated by Ingrid Dahlberg, new CEO of The Ingmar Bergman Foundation.
The Bergman Week is jointly organised by Fårö Future, Film@Gotland, the Göteborg Film Festival, and Gotland University.
