SVT’s thriller Caliphate and Viaplay’s romantic comedy Love Me are both vying for four TV awards each.

The Kristallen TV awards ceremony will be held on-site at Stockholm’s Vasateatern on August 27.

Nominated for the 2020 Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize for Best Nordic Screenplay, the series Caliphate (Kalifat) is competing for Best TV Drama, Best Actor with Amed Bozan, while Aliette Opheim and Gizem Erdogan are both running for Best Actress.

The thriller focuses on five young Swedish women whose fate is intertwined as they become involved in an imminent ISIS attack. Produced by Filmlance International, the series was a phenomenal success for SVT’s streaming service SVT Play, averaging over 600,000 adult viewers per episode during the first month after its January 12 launch on the Swedish public broadcaster. The show was launched on Netflix in March.

Love Me (Älska Mig) is vying for Best TV Drama, Best Actress (Josephine Bornebusch), Best Actor (Johan Ulveson) and Programme of the year. “I am overwhelmed, proud and moved that Love Me received these nominations. It’s a magical feeling that so many people appreciate our series,” said the star actress Bornebusch who created and directed the show.

The six-part TV show produced by Warner Bros International TV, is one of Nent Group/Viaplay’s biggest original drama success to date -both critically and commercially.

The series centres on friendship, grief and romance in the lives of three generations of people living in Stockholm. Season 2 will premiere on Viaplay September 13.

Meanwhile the financial thriller Blinded (Fartblinda) produced by FLX for C More/TV4 has a chance to win three Kristallen for its two leading actors Matias Varela and Julia Ragnarsson and in the Best TV drama category.

The series is written by Jesper Harrie from a novel by investigative journalist Carolina Neurath.

Two series are competing for two Kristallen each: the comedy drama Solsidan season 6 (FLX-Jarowskij/C More-TV4) nominated for Best Comedy series and Best Actor (Johan Rheborg) and the thriller Box 21 (Miso Film/Viaplay) nominated for Best Actor (Joakim Sällquist) and Best Actress (Ilinca Neacsu).

Other notable nominees in the Drama of the year category are SVT’s drama comedy Swiping (BR-F) and youth series Eagles 2 (New Stories).

In the children’s category, C More/TV4’s hit series Ture Sventon and the Secret of the Bermuda Triangle is one of five competing programmes.

Nordisk Film & TV Fond is associated to five Kristallen nominations for Swiping, Blinded and Ture Sventon and the Secret of the Bermuda Triangle.

A total of 21 statuettes will be handed out at the 16th Kristallen TV gala, to be transmitted live on TV4 and TV4 Play, August 27. “Swedish television is of world-class quality and in a time of Coronavirus, television in the everyday life of the Swedish people has become more important than ever,” said Kristallen’s director Anton Glanzelius.
