The streaming giant is running in three ‘Kristallen’ categories with its first Swedish original drama, sharing the most nods with SVT’s Sisters 1968 and Kanal 5’s The Truth Will Out.
“We are proud that the ‘Kristallen’ continues to invite new players such as Netflix to try to win the finest awards in Swedish television,” said TV award’ s director Anton Glanzelius.
Produced by FLX, Netflix’s crime thriller Quicksand (Störst av allt) is running for best TV Drama as well as best actress and best actor, going head to head with SVT’s period drama Sisters 1968 (Systrar 1968) produced by Anagram, and the crime thriller The Truth Will Out (Det som göms I snö), produced by Yellow Bird.
Reflecting the wide range of genres and high quality drama produced by different players, C More/TV4’s feelgood series A Wedding, Funeral and a Christening (Bröllop, begravning och dop) is running both for best TV drama and best actress (Helena Bergström), while FLX’s family dramedy The Bonus Family (Bonusfamiljen) season 3, gets a chance to double its best TV drama award won in 2017 for the opening season. Meanwhile SVT and Viaplay’s hit show The Restaurant (Vår tid är nu) produced by Jarowskij, which topped the Kristallen awards 2018, is vying this year in two acting categories for its returning season.
The prolific production house FLX has a record five accolades. On top of Quicksand and The Bonus Family, the crime comedy series The Simple Heist (Enkelstöten) is nominated for the second year in a row for best comedy. "The Kristallen nominations are the result of the great efforts and work of the teams behind Quicksand, The Bonus Family and The Simple Heist," said FLX managing partner Pontus Edgren. "We are happy this year to have for the very first time two nominations in the Drama category, which reflects our investment in Drama in recent years."
In other categories, B-Reel Films’ Stieg Larsson-The Man Who Played with Fire, which world premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, is among five films vying for best documentary.
Nordisk Film & TV Fond is associated to seven Kristallen nominations for Sisters 1968, The Truth Will out and Stieg Larsson, The Man Who Played with Fire. The 15th Kristallen awards ceremony will be transmitted live on SVT on August 30, 2019.
